Bernard Baer

Bernard Baer, 87, born Jan. 11, 1929, in Rayne, entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, in Clute, Texas.
He previously resided in Houston from 1948 to 2009, and then lived in Lake Jackson, Texas, 2009 to present.
Bernard is preceded in death by his wife, Emma Geraldine Taylor; parents Jeanne Ruth Caillouet and Louis Henry Baer; sisters, Miriam Richard, Margaret Ann McGrew and Patricia Domingue; and brothers, Phillip Baer, Sigmund Baer and Louis Henry Baer.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Felecia Baer Redd and husband James of Placedo, Texas, Bernard Bruce Baer of Navasota, Texas, and Vanda Jeanne Baer of Katy, Texas; grandchildren, Amanda White, Heather Walley-Jimenez, Rachel Walley, Michael Parra, LeAnn Au, Jason Parra, and Katherine Baer; great-grandchildren, Solomon Gaines, Elijah Gaines, Liam White, Amber White, Clark Jimenez, and Quenten Jimenez; brother, Max Baer; sisters, Yvonne Gary, Jo Ann Rodriguez, and Kay Weidner; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
There is a special acknowledgment of gratitude to the staff at Creekside Village Nursing home in Clute, Texas.
Bernard was a Navy World War II veteran, retired from Kroger after 31 years in produce, retired from Houston Food Bank a produce inspector 10 years, was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His heart was his family and helping others with anything they needed.
Pallbearers will be Ray Walley, Michael Parra, Jason Parra, Paul Au, Roger White, and Eric Martinelli.
Visitation is Thursday, Sept. 15, from 2 until 3 p.m.
Funeral will follow at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas, 77037.
Interment will follow in Brookside Memorial Park.

RAYNE - Funeral Services were held for Michael U. Doty, 59, at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at the Duhon Funeral Home-Rayne Chapel, with Brother Clint James officiating.
Visitation was held Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date.
Mike was a native of Crowley, LA and a resident of Lafayette Parish. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing and being on the water. He attended Rayne High School and then completed Marine Engineering School and entered into the Marine Transportation industry where he was employed for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, looking for deals on Ebay, enjoyed good food, and would help anyone in need. Mike will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Doty is survived by his wife, Dianna M. Doty of Rayne; children, Christyn Doty Robinson and her husband, Joseph of Duson, and Tiffany Doty of New Iberia; brothers, Patrick Doty of Duson, Brian Doty and his wife, Ann of Lake Charles, David Doty of Lake Charles; sister, Cindy Doty James and her husband, Frank of DeRidder; and one uncle, Ewell Landry and his wife, Sandy of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald W. Doty and Patricia Landry Doty, and one sister-in-law, Sylvia Doty.

RAYNE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Rayne for Verna L. Young, 70 who passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 8:47 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Fr. Richard Wagner, Pastor of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Rayne, will be officiating for the services. Burial will be in the Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church Cemetery in Rayne.
The family has requested the visitation to be held on Friday, September 16, at 8:00 a.m. until time of services in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, September 16, at 8:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne.
Survivors include his wife of thirty six years, Mildred P. Young of Rayne; six sisters, Bessie Eaglin of Beaumont, Texas, Wendy and husband, Al Francis of Rayne, Verna Mae Young and Sidney of Rayne, Linda Young and Joseph of Rayne, Deborah Brown of Beaumont, Texas, and Alma and husband, Francis Davies of Beaumont, Texas; six brothers, Freddy Wheeler and Carolyn of Beaumont, Texas, Ferdie Young and Martha of Beaumont, Texas, Lionel Young and Irene of Rayne, Harold and wife, Marjorie Young of Rayne, Joseph Young of Rayne, and Patrick and wife, Mary Young of Beaumont, Texas; several godchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdie and Mildred D. Young.

BOSSIER CITY - Celebration of life service for Dan Slominsky were held at Mary Queen of Peace on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Father Polanski officiated the service.
Visitation began at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment was at St Joseph Cemetery, Rayne, LA on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at 11:00 a.m.
Dan was born on June 13, 1934, in Edenborn, PA and passed away on September 8, 2016.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as SMSgt. after twenty faithful years. During those twenty years he spent time in the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict and was awarded two Bronze Stars for his actions.
After retirement, Dan continued his employment career as Public Works Director for the City of Bossier. But by far, nothing brought greater joy than taking care of his family and his friends.
Dan is preceded in death by his wife, Flo Slominsky and his grandson, Timothy Slominsky. Left to honor his memory are his two sons, Lloyd W. Slominsky and his wife Evelyn of Raleigh, NC, and CMSgt. (Ret) Richard D. Slominsky and wife DeNeena of Ofallon, IL.; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Vicarel, Kahlyn Slominsky, Kallie Slominsky and Keaton Slominsky.
Serving as pallbearers were the Keesler AFB Funeral Honors Team.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the USAF Funeral Honors Team from Keesler AFB for their faithful service to our country and our veterans.

Funeral services for Lou Anna Johnson Bordelon, 99, of Rayne, were held on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel.
Reverend Gene Lee, pastor of Rayne First Baptist Church, officiated.
Interment followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Eunice.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home and continued on Thursday from 8 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers were Scott Broussard, Corey Broussard, Dee DeRouen, Austin Bordelon, Mike Bordelon, Hunter Bordelon, and Jason Bordelon.
Mrs. Bordelon passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at 12:52 p.m. in Rayne.
Mrs. Bordelon was a member of First Baptist Church of Rayne. She retired from Moosa Memorial Hospital in Eunice after many years of service.
Mrs. Bordelon was an avid bird watcher, and loved to fish. Her greatest joy in life was caring for and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Bordelon of Rayne; sons, Kenneth Bordelon and wife Noemi “Mim” of Rayne, and Glenn Bordelon and wife Linda Starbird of Rayne; grandchildren, Tina DeRouen and husband Dee of Rayne, Mike Bordelon of Houma, Laurie Broussard and husband Scott of Scott, Amy Bordelon Freeman and husband Jason of Bend, Oregon, Jason Bordelon and wife Theresa of Anacortes, Washington, Levi Starbird of Astoria, Oregon, and Katherine Starbird of Portland, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Sherri Fuentes, Sarah Melancon, Corey Broussard, Taylor Broussard, Hunter Bordelon, Mandi Bordelon, Austin Bordelon, and Elsa Bordelon; and great-great-grandchildren, Lana Richard, Cherie Sawyer, Gabe Kidder, Bennett Kidder and Evelyn Ehricoel; and two great-great-grandchildren on the way.
Preceding Mrs. Bordelon in death were her husband, Edyes E. Bordelon; and parents, Seevola Johnson and Onezia Landreneau Johnson.

Services are pending for John Douglas Villejoin, 71, who died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends at Acadia General Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016.

Known to everyone as “Poppa,” he was a person who simply enjoyed life. He played softball, he coached boxing and he served his country in the United States Army for six years.
“Poppa” loved to fish and hunt. His granddaughter, Bailee Rae, was his world. He loved helping people and donating to those in need. Not a day went by that he wasn’t working in his garden. He loved the Lord and he loved to read. He was a part of the agricultural community in Vermilion Parish, having worked as a rice and soybean farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Etta Gautreaux Villejoin of Crowley; his two children, Laurie Anne Villejoin of Crowley and Shawn David Villejoin (Kimberly) of Crowley; and one granddaughter, Bailee Rae Villejoin of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his father Odea Villejoin and his mother, Solange Lognon Villejoin; two brothers, Alton Villejoin and Nelson Villejoin; and a sister, Dorothy Mae Villejoin Monte
Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Terry Benoit, Issac Fils, Shawn Villejoin, Laurie Villejoin, Mikal Hebert and John Breaux. Bailee Villejoin will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Mrs. Brazell 67 of Trout, was born on September 22, 1948 in Crowley, La. and passed from this life on Friday September 16, 2016 at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, La. She was a Customer Service Representative at Walmart.
Those left to cherish in her memory include her husband Johnny Brazell of Trout; her father, Hillard “Sonnie” Trahan of Leroy; brother Kenneth “Boo” and wife Joan Trahan of Leroy; nephew, Tradd Trahan and his wife Meagan; niece and Godchild Amaya Trahan; and twin great-nieces Harper Ann and Aubrey Leigh Trahan; step-daughters, Erin Brazell of Pineville; Emmy Brazell of Pineville; Jennifer and her husband Steven of Jasper, Texas; step-grandchildren, Maryna, Ty, Elias, Ezra, James, Jadyn and Grant.

Mire - Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 16, at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire for Patrick Babineaux, 74, who died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Interment was in the Assumption of the BVM Cemetery in Mire.
Rev. Michael Arnaud, pastor of Assumption of the BVM Catholic Church, was the celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services.
Readers were Noah Segura and Marie Smith. Serving as gift bearers were Mr. Babineaux’s granddaughters. Music selection were “Just a Closer Walk With Thee,” “Jesus Is My Shepherd Now,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Notre Pere’” and “Amazing Grace” (in French)
Survivors include his wife, Flora Blanchard Babineaux of Mire; three sons, Samuel Babineaux and wife Venessa of Mire, Mitchell Babineaux and wife Simonne of Mire and Brian Babineaux and wife Sandi of Henderson; eight grandchildren, Bryar Babineaux, Morgan Babineaux, Logan Babineaux, Hanna Babineaux, Taylor Babineaux, Anna Belle Babineaux, Ava Pryor, Noah Segura; three brothers, Carrol Babineaux, Daniel Babineaux and Richard Babineaux; and two sisters, Marie Babineaux Smith and Debra Babineaux.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shelby Babineaux; his father, Ray Babineaux; mother, Gertie Leger Babineaux; and sister, Norma Babineaux Richard.

Visitation was observed in Gossen Funeral Home on Thursday Sept. 15, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday, Sept. 16, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Pallbearers were Daniel Babineaux, John Richard, Bryar Babineaux, Samuel Babineaux, Brian Babineaux, and Mitchell Babineaux.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce W. Navarre and wife Patti of Youngsville and Bennett W. Navarre of Fort Walton, Florida; three daughters, Marcia Navarre Haynes and husband Lonny of Dallas, Texas, Georgette Richard of Rayne and Claudia “Pie” Richard of Savannah, Georgia; grandchildren, Megan Navarre of Dallas, Texas, and Andria Fetterman and husband Jamie of Savannah, Georgia; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie J. Navarre; two sons, Paul Dee Navarre and Steve M. Navarre; father, Howard Dee Walker; mother, Dorothy Wilson Walker; and brother, Bobby Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Chapel of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home for Jacqueline ”Jackie” Miciotto Huesers, 82 who died, Sept. 20, 2016, at 6:46 a.m. at Camelot Place in Crowley.
Fr. Matthew Higginbotham will be officiating the services. The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Thursday from 9 a.m. to service. A Rosary will be recited Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Jacqueline was born on Nov. 24, 1933, to the late Joseph “Gunsmoke” and Loretta Beurlot Miciotto. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was involved in the Redemptorist Catholic School bazaar, and many school functions. She loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the joy of her life especially when it came time to go to the beach and the mountains.
She is survived by her children, Debbie Beggs and her husband Dan, Ben Huesers and his wife Alicia, Linda Guidry and her husband Ray and Charles Huesers and his wife Chasity; daughter-in-law, Alisa Huesers; and godchildren, Earl “Butch” John and Aimee John Morrison. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren with one more on the way; also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew “Red” Huesers; her son, Mark Huesers; her parents, Joseph “Gunsmoke” and Loretta Miciotto; two brothers, Marvin Miciotto and Joe Miciotto III; and her sister Mary Grace Miciotto Stein.
Pallbearers will be Scott Beggs, Ray Guidry II, Cody Huesers, Jeremy Abshire, Brian “B.J” Ellender and Dan Beggs. Honorary pallbearer will be Charles Huesers Jr.
A special thank you goes to Dr. Paul Stringfellow, Camelot Place especially Carmen, Angie, Dewanna, Roxanne, and JoJo for making her stay feel like home. Also a special thank you goes to Heart of Hospice for their compassion and care in the final days of her life.

The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in Mowata.
John was born in Acadia Parish and graduated from St. Michael Catholic High School in 1958. He was a member of the Louisiana National Guard. John was a farmer for 35 years. He loved all sporting events and spending time with his children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marjorie Robichaux Schultz of Crowley; two daughters, Sara LeJeune and her husband Brodie of Crowley, and Debbie Hensgens and her husband Johann of Crowley; three sons, Patrick Schultz and his wife Adriane of Mowata, Scott Schultz of Crowley and John Schultz III and his wife Holly of Crowley; one sister, Mary Francis Schultz Wall and her husband Thomas Michael; and 23 grandchildren, Drake Schultz, Luke Schultz, Wesen Schultz, Patrick Schultz, Colt Schultz, Anne Marie Schultz, Mary Elizabeth Schultz, Hank Schultz, Blaise Schultz, Madelyn LeJeune, Hunter LeJeune, Brodie LeJeune Jr., Jacob Link, Johann Hensgens III, Joseph Hengens, John William Hensgens, Peter Hensgens, Katherine Hensgens, John Schultz IV, Hannah Schultz, Natalie Schultz, Ryan Schultz and Charlotte Schultz.

A Liturgy of the Word Service was held for Donald R. “Tony” Guidry, 78, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Duhon Funeral Home-Crowley Chapel with Rev. Charles McMillin as Celebrant. Visitation was held at Duhon Funeral Home-Crowley on Friday, Sept. 23, from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. and will resumed on Saturday at 8 a.m. until just prior to the time of service. Interment followed the service and was in Abshire Cemetery in Kaplan. Mr. Guidry passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, in Jennings.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rosa Primeaux Guidry of Jennings; two sons, Anthony Wayne Guidry and his wife Tanya of Jennings and Timothy Guidry of Jennings; daughter, Christine Blanchard and her husband Allison of Hathaway; seven grandchildren, Misty Guidry, Keegan Guidry and his wife Sarah Halee Samaha and her husband, Adam, Ryan Blanchard, Travis Blanchard, Amber Guidry and Jasmine Guidry; great-grandchildren, Eli and Amelia Samaha and “one on the way”, Anna Claire Guidry; sister, Velda Theunissen of Jennings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cheavery and Rena Guidry; and one sister, Verna Mae Ippolito; and brother-in-law, Pirmin Theunissen.
Pallbearers were Timothy Guidry, Keegan Guidry, Ryan Blanchard, Travis Blanchard, Adam Samaha and Allison Blanchard. Honorary Pallbearer was Wayne Guidry.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iota, for Frederick Paul Trumps, 87, who died Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at 2:12 p.m. at Acadia General Hospital in Crowley.
Mr. Trumps was a native and lifelong resident of Iota. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a gardener who was known for his tomatoes and cabbage. He had a love for animals especially all his dogs named “Tiger”.
Fr. Jude Thierry, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Trumps is survived by three daughters, Belinda T. Hebert of Iota, Paula T. Fontenot and her husband Mike of Ville Platte and Monica T. Clement and her husband Glynn of Butte LaRose; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Rudy LeJeune of Iota; and daughter-in-law, Angie Trumps of Iota.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nathalie Guillory Trumps; one daughter, Yolanda T. LeJeune; one son, Gregory Trumps; his parents, Raymond and Anna Pousson Trumps; one son-in-law, Steve Hebert; and five sisters and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be Rhett Hebert, Justin Douget, Jason Douget, Brian Fontenot, Ryn Trumps and Rickey Porter.

Graveside funeral services with military honors for Harvey Joseph Dejean Sr., 71, of Duson, were held on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 2 in Rayne.
Visitation was held on Friday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Visitation continued on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 9:40 a.m. in the funeral home.
Mr. Dejean passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, in a Lake Charles health care facility.
Mr. Dejean earned a Combat Infantryman Badge in VietNam while serving in the U.S. Army. He worked as a sales representative for Giles Nissan, and had previously worked for Security Industrial Life Insurance Company.
Mr. Dejean enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with friends, and he was an accomplished chess player. His greatest joy in life was spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include his former spouse, Patricia Doucet of Duson; sons, Harvey J. Dejean Jr. and wife Denise of Duson, and Alpha Dejean and wife Aimee of Duson; daughter, Celeste Dejean of Duson; sister, Geraldine Penn and husband Carlton of Breaux Bridge; grandchildren, Harvey Dejean III, Alyssa Lafleur, Elizabeth Catherine Louise Dejean, Jeanne Marie Carol Lafleur, Murphy Lafleur III, and Elaine Dejean, and Audri Ann Dejean; and great-grandchildren, Arthur Dejean, Mallory Claire Lafleur, and Aiden Ovide Foster.
Preceding Mr. Dejean in death were his parents, Elton Dejean and Angelle Richard Dejean; sister, Joyce Daigle; and three other siblings.

Interment was in the St. Anthony Cemetery in Lake Arthur.
Rev. Samuel Fontana, Associate Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church was the celebrant of the Funeral Mass.
Survivors include three sons, James “Rusty” Russell Melancon Jr., Quentin Melancon and wife Debbie, and Shawn Melancon and wife Lisa; six grandchildren, Joshua Melancon, Nicholas Melancon, Thomas Melancon, Amber Melancon, Cody Robinson, Joshua Pellissier; seven great-grandchildren, Kealy Smith, Briley Page Melancon, Grant Pellissier, Aryana Pellissier, Kaden Marshall, Jordan Marshall, Makaila Rene Joiner; and brother, Overton “Boo” Stelly II.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ferl Bourque; mother, Veda Aunne Holloway Stelly; and step-father, Overton J. Stelly I.

Paul loved the outdoors. He loved being with family and cooking for them. He loved anything camo and he loved hunting. He liked helping people and always was willing to help. Most of all he loved his family.
